The Master Herbalist writes on 12/1/09:

The winters around here are "shorter" in that we have some very cold days, but then a few days later, it melts....When I was a kid, when the heavy snows came, they STAYED for the winter..

Another fact, our local ski slope is downsizing each and every year..back when it was colder, they had restaurants, hotels, bars and live bands......today they have about 30 days of decent man made snow skiing. Only 2-3 weeks max of natural snow..if they had no snow makers, there would be zero skiing...so in my view, it is getting warmer and warmer.

From The science of Oxygen website:

The increase in such components as carbon dioxide could well be a major factor in degenerate health today.  With the studies done over the years, from the year 1000 AD to 1830 AD the carbon dioxide levels were 175 PPM (parts per million).

“If his ‘breathing in’ process includes roughly double the amount of carbon dioxide as our ancestors (or only 200 years ago) did, that could explain a great deal of the change in degenerative diseases that exist now, in great abundance compared to their almost complete non-existence 200 years ago.” — Karl Loren

For thousands of years, 170 PPM of carbon dioxide was sufficient and necessary to keep the cycle of life going on the planet.  There was enough carbon dioxide in the air to keep millions of square miles of green stuff growing.  It is alarming when we realize that the amount of carbon dioxide has now increased to more than 300 PPM!

The massive increase in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is what we call the greenhouse effect.  It may very well be the negative condition resulting in global warming that some scientists have warned us about.

UPDATE: As of May of 2013 CO2 levels have reached 400 PPM.

FACT: Ice core samples show that carbon dioxide levels have always been between 170-300 ppm for 650,000 years.

Posted April 29, 2014 on the Climate Central website:

The end of April has arrived, and with it, the record for the first month in human history with an average carbon dioxide level in Earth’s atmosphere above 400 parts per million has been set.

With a little more than 24 hours left in the month, the average for April can't slip below 400 ppm. “Every day in April has been over 400 ppm,” said Pieter Tans, a climate scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are monitored from a site atop Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano, where they have been measured continuously since 1958. The long record has charted the steep rise of the greenhouse gas — the most prevalent in Earth’s atmosphere — as a result of human emissions.

The first measurement in excess of 400 ppm was made on May 9, 2013. This year, the level rose above that mark a full two months earlier, and has remained above 400 ppm steadily since the beginning of April. While the milestone is largely a symbolic one, it does illustrate how far emissions have risen from their preindustrial levels of 280 ppm.

Most people are still unaware that global warming actually means an INCREASE in Carbon Dioxide Abundance rather than an increase in temperature.  It is quite interesting how some people will argue with such strength and conviction on an issue that has such a significant global impact on our future for ourselves and generations to come.  They would rather do nothing about it because it is inconvenient to their daily lives and claim it as something non-existent.

The ordinary person, who claims that climate change is a conspiracy, will just go by their feeling and beliefs.  That is not very scientific nor is it reasonable.  While the informed individual will go by the scientific data that is available along with correct reasoning and the consequences of our actions.  In the end, it is quite irresponsible to look the other way.

From the Carbon Account website:

What are carbon emissions?

carbon emissions

Carbon dioxide and climate change

Every time we burn fossil fuels such as gas, coal or oil, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.  In a natural carbon cycle, carbon dioxide is re-absorbed by plants and trees.  However, we are burning fuels where the carbon dioxide has been trapped under the earth’s surface for millions of years, and we’re doing it so quickly that plants and trees that are alive now have no chance of soaking it up (and it doesn’t help that we’re cutting down rainforests as well).

The effect of all this extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is that the overall temperature of the planet is increasing (global warming).  Whilst the average global temperature is increasing, on a day-to-day level the climate is changing in unpredictable ways (from floods and hurricanes to heat waves and droughts).  To try and reduce the risk of ever more extreme weather, we need to reduce how much fossil fuel we are burning. This isn’t easy.

Posted on CBS This Morning, November 3, 2014:

The Science:

The UN report claims that climate change is real and man-made.  This report was based on thirty thousand studies that were analyzed.  Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku explains (in the video below) in easy terms.

“For the first time in clear words it says, there is a POINT OF NO RETURN.  A point, beyond which, damage would be irreversible and irreparable.” — Michio Kaku

Michio Kaku: “By the end of the century, unless we take measures now we HAVE to zero out, ZERO OUT, not reduce, but zero out our dependence on oil and coal burning.”

Reporter: “What is the significance of man-made?”

Michio Kaku:  “If it is a natural cycle, we throw our hands up and say, what can we do?  It’s Mother Nature’s revenge.  However, if it is man-made then we can do something about it.  We can eliminate the causes of them”

Reporter: “Why should we care about this now?”

Michio Kaku:  “Insurance rates are going to go up because of flooding in many areas.  We see an increase in heat spells which means more visits to the hospital.  And so we are seeing the beginning of it now.  Sea levels are rising.  Temperatures are rising.  Alaska and Greenland are beginning to thaw out.  So we are beginning to see, the beginning of what could be trillions of dollars in property damage.”

“We care about this now because food prices are going to rise, because of the disruptions to agriculture.  Farmers realize that summer is almost a week longer than normal.” — Michio Kaku

The Master Herbalist said the same thing back in 2009:

“The winters around here are “shorter” in that we have some very cold days, but then a few days later, it melts….When I was a kid, when the heavy snows came, they STAYED for the winter..” — MH
